Review – Aamir
We knew that Aamir was a promising movie and that Rajeev would give his best performance, but what was most shocking that the movie has proved to be one of the best debut movie given by a first-timer director (Rajkumar Gupta) and its main protagonist (Rajeev Khandelwal) who is better known as Sujal Garewal from television’s popular soap Kahiin Toh Hoga.
Aamir (Rajeev Khandelwal), is a doctor in London who lands in Mumbai. The airport officials check his luggage and keep inquiring about him just because his name is Aamir. When he comes out of the airport, he finds that his family has not come to receive him. He decides to make a phone call to his family and hence goes to a nearby PCO. Suddenly, two men on a bicycle throw a mobile phone at him. The phone starts ringing and Aamir receives the call.
An unknown caller who is from a terrorist group starts giving him instructions on phone. Aamir tells the caller that he has misunderstood him to be someone else. But the caller remains adamant and instructs him to sit in the taxi in which his luggage has already been put in. He sits in the taxi only to find out that his phone rings again giving him instructions to go from one place to another. Frustrated, Aamir shouts at the taxi driver, decides to keep the phone in the taxi and orders the driver to stop the taxi and let him take his luggage. But as soon as Aamir gets out of the taxi, the taxi driver speeds the taxi and his luggage gets whisked away. He goes and sits on a footpath only to find out that two men on a bike throw a mobile phone again at him. Aamir, who has no choice left, receives the call and follows the instructions given to him by the unknown caller because his family has been kidnapped by the caller.
The movie has been shot at real locations. The film deals only with Aamir going from one place to another as instructed by the unknown caller. You may or may not agree with the ending of the movie. The movie shows how Mumbai city is being controlled by enemies who think by destroying the city, they can save their ‘qom’ (community). The film is almost of 1 hr 30 minutes duration but is captivating from the first scene to the last. It shows how a man can choose to save the city being destroyed.
Rajeev Khandelwal has given an outstanding performance. He has acted as an ordinary guy trapped in extra-ordinary situations. The film has no leading lady, no typical song and dance sequence. The film has an excellent background score. The movie is conceptually fresh, different from the usual Bollywood movies. It shows the real life lived by the people in Mumbai through Aamir’s eyes. Aamir is one of a kind movie, which makes a presence felt in your minds rather than your heart. Aamir is an eye-opener for sure! Rajeev Khandelwal deserves an applause for his sincere performance.
We at Rajeev Khandelwal Fanclub would recommend each and everyone to watch this movie. Please do not illegally download the songs/movie from the net. Buy original DVDs and watch the movie in Cinemas only.
